Reeperbahn - Dansar 7" 1982

Everything is quiet on new years day. Reeperbahn were a strange band, they were very popular in their own time, had a major label deal and sold a lot of records WITH the ability to still make great music. They started out as a charming powerpop/punkpop-band and naturally evolved into a more new wave, Talking Heads-inspired music like most of their contemporaries did. I find it a bit weird that they had minor hits with songs where singer Olle Ljungström (Now a renowned solomusician) laid his original visions of sex, drugs and life in the modern world. Songs like that would never even touch the charts nowadays. This single is from the start of their best period when they switched record company from Mercury (although this single's still on Mercury) to more new-wave oriented Stranded Rekords. And of course, the other singer who used to share vocal duties with Olle, Dan Sundquist, left to his solo career. The b-side is one of the best songs ive heard. But who does the vocals? Could it be Dan? It doesnt sound like him but maybe its him... Get it:

Att Som - Fixerad 7" 1981

Today we offer one of my favorite 7"s from the lesser known swedish "underground". Att Som were a band from Malmö in the south of sweden and only released this EP and participated on a sort of split LP with Karlshamn-band Unter Den Linden. The LP is a fantastic journey through territories explored by Joy Division and will appear here soon. This single is more of a Devo-inspired synth punk madness with a kind of dadaesque take on the lyrics. the first track Aldrig Förr Solen En Hammare means Never Before The Sun A Hammer and i guess its a display of the fear of the nuclear holocaust which where a theme often used by the more introvert bands in the 70-80s. So i hope you enjoy this fantastic quirky post-punk and remember: the atom bomb might fall upon our heads any day now!

Hörförståelse - Förläst Jävel 7" 1980

Well, i might as well type this thing in english even though my english sucks. Up for display today is the only single by mysterious band Hörförståelse. Observant visitors may remember them from Johan Kugelbergs top 100 DIY-list. Hörförståelse were based in Stockholm and altough i dont remeber who played in the band there's been unconfirmed rumours that Mats Wigerdal (drummer in Kitchen & the Plastic Spoons, later in Ubangi and Oven & Stove) played guitar for a while. Im not sure if thats actually true because ive read an interview with the band in an old swedish fanzine and Mats is not mentioned, although in the live clips you can see on youtube the guitarist looks a bit like mr Wigerdal. Anyway, this single is hyped to the death and fetches large prices on auctionsites. I dont really know why, sure its a good post-punk/minimal synth tune but to repeat it on the b-side with a slightly altered instrumentation... On the other hand, the lyrics are great!

Modern Art - Envy 7"

Thomas Dileva känner de flesta svenskar till. Det är den där galna jesustypen säger vissa. Samtidigt måste man ha i åtanke att Thomas var en stark profil i den tidiga gävlepunkscenen och en alldeles utmärkt förespråkare för en relativt mörk punk. Här är hans andra singel med det andra bandet, Modern Art, som väl uppstod ur det tidigare, Pillisnorks. Utmärkt hackig postpunk där Thomas röst kanske inte kommer till sin fulla rätt utan snarare påminner om utländska inspiratörer, men lyssna på basgången och syntarna!

Introduktion

Det har sedan länge saknats en praktisk och komplett sida för bra musik. Förhoppningen med denna enkla sida är att denna lucka ska fyllas. Här ska det i framtiden stoltseras med musik man inte ser alltför ofta och framförallt då av svensk härkomst. Senare ska det också finnas musik från övriga norden, i den mån jag hinner med, eftersom det är, om möjligt, ännu svårare att få tag på. Visst, den svenska post-punken, ett kapitel som trots allt är skrivet i historien. Främst syftar jag på den samling som kom ut för något år sedan. En sådan anskrämlig skara av låtar. Inte för att banden i sig är dåliga, men valen av låtar, det är det som är anskrämligt. Här hoppas jag fylla etern med band och inspelningar som man inte har hört tusen gånger i bandspelare, på fester och på exakt alla klubbar i världshistorien. Stoppa mig om du har hört det här förut...
